You asked

  • HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR MY SPRAY TAN?
Before Your Spray Tan Shave (first) and exfoliate (second) 8-12 hours before your appointment to allow your pores to close and reduce the chance of spray tan getting in and creating the look of black dots. Waxing is best done at least 48 hours before to ensure no wax residu is left on your skin which can cause the spray tan to slide right off. Avoid using bar soaps, high ph and oil based shower & skin products (such as dove) for at least 24 hours before your spray tan. Moisturize your skin daily (especially if you have dry skin) with a hydrating non-oily lotion until 24 hours before your spray tan. Complete all your beauty treatments 24 hours before your spray tan (manicures, pedicures, facials, massages, hair coloring). Day Of Your Spray Tan Shower at least 2-4 hours before your spray tan appointment with lukewarm water only (no shower products or soap) and do not wash your hair (as shampoo and/or conditioner residu can create a barrier on your skin). Leave your skin clean! Do not apply moisturizer, serum, bodylotion, perfume, deodorant and make-up (mascara and lipstick/-gloss are allowed). If you can not live without perfume - which we totally get - you can spray it gently onto your hair, but make sure it does not fall on your skin as this may cause discoloration or a patchy tanning result. Coming from work? You can remove your make-up and/or deodorant in our salon. If it is rainy make sure to take the necessary precautions (at least an umbrella) so your tan does not get wet.
  • WHAT SHOULD I WEAR DURING MY SPRAY TAN OR DO I HAVE TO GO NAKED?
You can wear as little and as much as you like, whatever makes you feel comfortable. To avoid tan lines you can spray tan nude. If you do not mind a tan line, then we recommend a tight fitting string and/or (strapless) bra or bandeau (so it won’t move and transfer the tan). We have disposable underwear in our salon. Special attention to our men: Underwear (boxers or briefs) is mandatory.
  • WHAT SHOULD I WEAR AFTER GETTING MY SPRAY TAN?
Whilst all of our tans are quick drying, we can not eliminate tan transfer completely unless you choose THE SECRET (our invisible/clear spray tan solution) or our luxury finishing powder. Sweating, tight fitting clothes or working out (rubbing your skin or making your skin wet) can cause your tan to transfer onto your clothes or bedsheets. Therefore we recommend dark, loose fitting clothes (and no bra for the first two to three hours). Cotton or linnen are best. Avoid satin, silk, leather or lycra (these fabrics draw moisture off the body, potentially leaving marks). Dying for a last minute spray tan and no time to change your outfit? No problem. We are here to serve your needs! In our salon (and online) we provide fashionable THE CLIENT clothing to complement your tan whilst covering up potential tan transfer marks. Do not want the hassle and want to come prepared? Go to the shop and get our iconic THE CLIENT attire now!
  • CAN I GO OUT RIGHT AFTER MY SPRAY TAN TREATMENT?
Yes you can! All of our spray tans dry quickly and look amazing right away. Furthermore, every treatment can be complemented with our luxury finishing powder making sure your skin feels silky smooth and your tan stays where it belongs (on your skin and not on your clothes ;-)). If you feel the need to put on make-up, you can use mineral (powder) make-up (stay away from liquid foundation!). Just make sure to keep your skin dry while your tan is still developing if you want to steel the show at home, at work or on your night out!
  • WHEN CAN I SHOWER AFTER MY SPRAY TAN?
First Things First! Make sure your skin will not get wet until your first rinse! This means no showers, lotions, liquid foundations, swimming (preferrably for at least 24 hours), high intensity work outs and watch out wanting to wash your hands. Instead of washing your hands, use hand disinfectants in the palms of your hands only, for example one of The Handmists available online and in store. First Rinse You can shower in as little as 1 hour or wait for 6 to 8 hours (or even the next morning) depending on which spray tan you have chosen and what results you wish to achieve. You will be given a personalized set time in our salon by your technician. Do not wait longer to shower to avoid your tan to overdevelop. Make sure your first shower is with lukewarm water only (no shower gel) and does not take longer than to rinse off the cosmetic bronzer (approx. a minute or two) as your tan continues to develop (up to 24 hours). Stop when the water is clear again. Do not wash your hair during this first shower and do not apply moisturizer or boylotion right after (wait until after the second shower). Second and Further Showers From the second shower on, be gentle to your skin. Use (luke)warm water and only a natural body wash. Avoid exfoliants, long hot showers and baths, mineral oils and bar soap. Pat yourself dry with a towel and do not rub.
  • HOW CAN I ENJOY MY SPRAY TAN AS LONG AS POSSIBLE?
The most important secret to a long lasting tan is keeping your skin hydrated. The second most important advice is to avoid mineral oils and (harsh) exfoliants (scrubs, alcohol, AHA’s, BHA’s and other ingredients which aim to renew your skin). Your tan is in fact a reaction of your dead skin cells to the active ingredient in the spray tan solution. To maintain your tan and let it fade evenly, you will want to prevent your skin from shedding (which it naturally does) for as long as possible. So moisturize your skin twice a day using an oil- and alcoholfree product, keep your showers short and not too hot and do not exfoliate until you are ready to say goodbye to your current spray tan and you will enjoy your glowing skin for the longest time. Tip To help prolong your tan or for touch ups in between spray tan treatments, the MARC INBANE bodylotion (for hydration) and the COCO Tan Extender (for touch-ups) are the way to go and are now exclusively available in our salon and online.
  • HOW LONG WILL MY SPRAY TAN LAST?
A spray tan will last anywhere from 7 to 10 days, depending on your skin condition and skin type and your pre- and post-tan skincare routine. Some last merely 5 days and others for as long as 14 days. Tip To enjoy your tan as long as possible, hydration is key. Take a look at the MARC INBANE bodylotion to moisturize your body, preferably twice a day. A pH balancing body wash can also do wonders for your skin, such as the luxurious Tan Toner we offer online and in our salon!
  • WILL I TURN ORANGE?
Orange and fake looking tans belong to the past. Our solutions are created with the highest quality DHA and natural ingredients to complement and enhance your natural skin tone, making you feel beautiful and confident inside and out.
  • CAN I TAN IN THE SUN AFTER HAVING MY SPRAY TAN?
Yes you can! Lots of people come in for a spray tan just before going on holiday so they are already tanned before hitting the beach in their bikini or swimshorts. Be aware however that spray tans do not contain a sunscreen so they do not protect you against sunburn and premature aging. To protect your skin, always use a SPF when going into the sun.
  • I AM GETTING MARRIED. WHAT IS THE BEST TIME TO GET A SPRAY TAN?
First of all, congratulations! We are happy to make your day even more (picture) perfect by making your skin look its best. We recommend getting your spray tan 1-2 days prior to your wedding day. Tip Buy one of our our special Wedding Packs or get a Trial Tan first to ensure you will be over the moon with your tan and you can check one more thing off your to-do list!
  • IS SPRAY TANNING SAFE?
The active tanning ingredient in spray tan solutions is DHA (Dihydroxyacetone), in some cases combined with Erythrulose. Both ingredients are naturally derived. DHA is found in sugar beets and Erythrulose in raspberries. These ingredients react with the amino acids and protein bits in the dead skin cells on the top layer of your skin. The harmlessness of this reaction is similar to the discoloration of a cut apple that will turn brown once exposed to the oxygen in the air. As DHA and Erythrulose do not penetrate further than the dead skin cell layer, it is a more than healthy alternative for the extremely damaging UV rays in tanning beds and from the sun.
  • CAN I SPAY TAN DURING PREGNANCY OR BREAST FEEDING?
Spray tanning is a perfect and healthy alternative for UV tanning in the sun and tanning beds. DHA and/or Erythrulose (the active ingredients which make your skin tanned) do not penetrate the skin or enter the bloodstream. Despite there is no evidence spray tanning having a negative effect - it has been used since the 1960’s without any problems - we always recommend our pregnant customers to consult their general practicioner prior to spray tanning. Furthermore, if you would like a tan for a special occasion whilst pregnant or breast feeding we recommend a trial tan. Due to the hormonal changes your body is going through we want to make sure your tan adheres to your skin and will develop according to your wishes. If you are breastfeading you can use nipple covers or a bra/bandeau during your spray tan.
  • WILL A SPRAY TAN HAVE AN EFFECT ON MY TATTOO(S)?
Not at all! A spray tan does not effect the coloring of tattoos. It has the same effect as a normal tan by the sun. Some even feel their tattoos look better after a spray tan. Note: if you have a new tattoo, we recommend waiting for at least 10 days for the healing process to be completed.
  • HOW CAN I REMOVE MY (OLD) SPRAY TAN?
Your (old) spray tan can easily be removed with a special tan remover, like the Prep & Prime Tan Eraser available in our salon and online. You can use this with a wash cloth or - for more stubborn areas - with an exfoliation mitt (also available online and in store). For best results, wait at least three days after tanning.
  • HOW LONG DOES AN APPOINTMENT TAKE?
We love seeing you and giving you all the time you want and need! But if you are in a hurry, it is good to know your spray tan usually takes around 20-30 minutes (from walking through the door, getting sprayed and dressed). For first timers take into account around 30-45 minutes.
